Funny Friday

Just a few of the funnies around here lately....

(March '12)
Lucas got tired of holding the phone.

(April '12)
Brooklyn and cousin Madeline dressed the tortoise in baby girl pants.

Keandre and Nichole got married.  And had a child.  All in the same hour.

They were the typical, doting parents, quite proud of their cape-wearing tyke.

Uncle Ian's tortoise was part of our Easter egg hunt.  He stayed in this position for a good 15 minutes.  So cooperative! :)

A couple tigers and a cheetah planned a playdate...

...and together, they learned the joys of photography in motion.

(May 2012)
Brooklyn's hair took on a life of its own.
And she turned two! :)

Keandre tried out a new sleeping position. He successfully slept on top of legos, a heat lamp, and his guitar. (Yes, their bedroom floor is usually that messy. I gave up -- and that is why they have a baby gate in their doorway! :)

So....what's funny in your life these days?

Funny Friday

We have been known to dress all our kiddos in the same color, to keep track of them at the Children's Museum or a crowded splash pad.  But a trip to Target?  I assure you it was their idea this time.  But I figured we stand out as it is.  Why not really make them wonder? :)  (Can you believe we had 5 shirts in 5 different shades of green, and they all fit?  Nothing short of amazing, I say.)

ps - We're having a great time with cousin Sam this week while his parents celebrate their 10th Anniversary.  Congratulations, Uncle David & Auntie Sarah!

what tired Mamas do...

It was 8pm.

She was still wearing her dinner.

There was an empty cooler in the bathtub (I made raw milk yogurt today).

Quickest and easiest bath ever.

Too bad it's kinda tacky to store coolers in your bathtub! ;)

keyword search

I must live under a rock.  Or maybe I'm just really busy with my kids.

It took me long enough, but I recently discovered that Blogspot keeps stats on my blog (and yours, too, if you have one).  At the bottom of one of the pages, there is a list of key words/phrases used to find your blog.  Today, someone found our blog using these key words:

'help little kiara with her hair'.

Incidentally, I really could use some help with my hair.  Anyone?

Bobby Blue

We are not the only ones with a confused pet.  Grandma has one, too!  Bobbly Blue likes to go walking in the afternoons with Grandma and her dog, Molly.

Apparently Bobby Blue developed this strange behavior after he was locked in Uncle Jesse's barn for three days.  (Grandma finally heard him meowing.)

Grandma said, "When I walk down our road to the end of the avocados, he goes with us. But if I go up the road, all the way to Stan and Boecky's gate, he waits for us near the top of the driveway and pops out of the bushes when we come by."

Anyone else have confused pet stories?

Funny Friday

Once a week we have a campfire in our front yard with our neighbors and anyone else who stops by.  We make s'mores and serve up hot apple cider and maybe a few beers.  It's the perfect way to relax after a long day.  (If you live in the area and want to join us, just ask me for details -- we'd love to have you stop by!)

Not surprisingly, this is our children's favorite night of the week.  They look forward to it for days, and often write up personalized invitations that they pass around the neighborhood to make sure their friends have not forgotten.  They also like to help set out the food and drinks, put out camp chairs, and get the firewood ready.

This week, I walked into the boys' room to find this little scene.  Lucas had been reading in his room and had this bright idea that he could reach more branches on the dead bush outside his window from inside the house.  And of course he wasn't concerned with how many sticks, leaves, and little pieces of bark would be in his bed next time he needed it.  He was just excited that he'd hit the jackpot on kindling!

What is that saying?...oh yes, 'boys will be boys!'  Well, I thank God our kiddos are all so different from each other.  It sure keeps life interesting.

skinny jeans

If you're in need of a pair of skinny jeans, head on over to my brother's house.  His neighbor sells them.  Every single weekend.  And people go buy them.  Who'd have guessed?  The conveniences of living in certain neighborhoods.  Are you jealous yet?

Mighty Mud Mania

It's not my fault.  I give Andy full credit.  He's the one who took them to the real Mud Mania last month.  I bet these kids have been waiting for a day like today -- a day I naively said, "Sure, you can play in the hose. Just stay in the shade."  Ha!  I went out a little later, and Lucas, Destany, and their cousin Devin exclaimed, "We made our own mighty mud mania!"  Highlight of my day....stripping them down and hosing them off.  No baths needed today! ;)

Innocent little boy, out picking flowers, when suddenly he is attacked by mud monsters!

Puppy Puppy, Please!

Keandre is our resident puppy.  He has one of those stuffed animal backpacks with a 'leash' for Mommy or Daddy to hold, and it is one of his favorite possesions!  Of course, maybe that is because I have never put it on him and actually used it to keep track of him.

We aquired this particular item when he found it at our favorite consignment store.  He dragged it all over the place until it was so filthy I offered to buy it before they could suggest that it was now my responsibility to purchase it.  That way I felt kind and gracious, you know? ;)  After all, it's not my fault they're floors were so dirty....

Keandre likes to put on his teddy backpack, complete with 'leash' and talk his big brother and sister into playing puppy with him.  If they are not available, he approaches me with his sad puppy-dog eyes (pun not intended) and says, "Mommy, no one is pulling me!"  Ah, sweet boy.  I will pull you.

On the subject of puppies, I have to mention one of my favorite children's books, by Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee.  The illustrations are by Kadir Nelson.  Amazing!

Funny Friday

Keandre woke up all ready to help Daddy mow the lawn.  He thinks he's dressed like Daddy: wide-brimmed hat, protective glasses, and work boots.  Oh, how I love his creative sense of style!  He looks so serious because I pulled him away from his work, and he is anxious to get back to it! :)

....so we could tell them apart

Lucas and Chez are really into catching caterpillars these days.  A few days ago they found two caterpillars that looked the same.  They couldn't wait to show us.  And then Lucas told me, "Mom, they're identical, so we marked one of them with a marker so we could tell them apart."

Funny Friday

Over the last couple weeks, Keandre has become our early riser.  Rather than sleeping in until 7 or 7:30am, as all the kids have typically done, he is routinely up at 6:30 or earlier.  On this particular morning, I awoke to hear him in the family room, singing at the top of his lungs.  I peeked in and found him sitting on his trike, wearing his tomato hat (not sure where it came from, but it is a favorite right now!).  He was in his element, belting out songs at random....  He was SO happy....enjoying the peace and quiet of an early morning to himself.

Caught in the Act - Photo Flashbacks

I can't wait to have a baby in the house again.  Even though I know she'll soon do things like this...

(It was too quiet.  We found her hiding behind a chair in the family room, eating an apple!)

Toddlers.  You gotta love them!
