treasure

Keandre, as he fell asleep in my arms while
fighting a high fever this week:

"Mommy, I love being your treasure."

Be still my heart.

Do you know you are the Lord's treasure?  Oh, how I hope that changes our lives the way our deep and sacrificial (human) love for our children changes their lives.

March Kids' Quotes

Brooklyn:
"Hi!"  (complete with super-cute wave with her right hand)
"Da-Da"
"Ma-Ma"
"Ah-duh" (with baby sign)

Keandre:
Keandre: "Mommy, I did Brooklyn's hair for you. She looks pretty now!"
Mom: "With Vaseline?!? Oh, my."

"How old am I now?  Four?  (Pause.)  Where did the 3 go???"

K: "Can I open my presents now?"  (every 5 minutes)
Mom: "Keandre, I'm just trying to keep everyone alive right now."
K: "Well, I'm just trying to keep everyone opening my presents right now!"

Destany:
"Mom, if I'm going to be snug as a bug in a hug, you'll need to hug me."
After a big hug, "Now I'm definitely snug as a bug in a hug!"

"Mom, who is this card for?"
Kiara: "Me, it's a birthday coupon."
"Phew!  I cannot handle any more birthday invitations!"

"My mane is crazy today!"  (free hair day, which she loves!)

Lucas:
"All I can think of to do to get warm is hide underneath a big box.  It's the most like a blanket."  (the blankets were in the wash)

"Can someone please come get Brooklyn?!?  She's attacking me!"

"Brooklyn feels hungry."  (Me: "Oh yeah?")  "Yes, I picked her up and her tummy feels empty.  She feels hungry."

----------------
The only thing holding up this post was the need for a new pic of the kids. But since our camera disappeared the middle of March, I had to give up. There will be a new pic next month, I promise. We're giving in and buying new camera.  Yippee! :)

January Kids' Quotes

Brooklyn-
“ma-ma-ma-ma”
“pbbbbbt” (raspberries)
“mmmm-behhh”
"ah-da-da-da"

"ba-ba-ba-ba"

Keandre-
"Mommy -- I'm texting your mom.  She got real sick.  She had too much salt.  The doctor said, 'No more having salt!'"

"Daddy!  Mommy doesn't cut it like that!"
A: "Really?  How does she cut it?"
"She cuts it normal!"

"Daddy, Destany isn't sharing her love with me.  She won't let me go in her room!"

Destany-
"Mommy, I feel really sick....like my head's going to fall off and my brain isn't working right.  Ask me what's 2 + 2?"
Mom:  "I'm sorry you don't feel well.  What's 2 + 2?"
"Mmmmmm....I'm not sure.  But I think it's close to four."

"When I'm married, I'm going to have 10 kids.  My husband won't have a job, so he'll be around to help me a lot.  I'll give him Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday off, so he can have a rest."

"Bleh!  Wine is gross.  I don't want to drink any more until I'm thirteen!"
(Andy: "Phew!  Glad we don't have to worry about that for seven more years.")

Lucas-
L: "Mom, the oranges you told me to put in the compost were hard on the outside, but perfect on the inside.
Kiara: "Oh, bummer.  Next time, let me know and we can juice them, okay?"
L: "Okay.  But you're pretty smart, so I thought you'd know that."

"Sorry, what did you say, Mom?  I couldn't hear you....I was thinking."

(cough-cough)

K – “Mommy, I’m *starving hungry*!” (A while later:) “I’m done, Mommy. I’m starving full.”

Mom – “Keandre, please worry about yourself.” (and not your sister’s business)
K – “Mom, I don’t know what to worry about. Can you tell me what to worry about?”

K - "Mommmmmy!  Why aren't you looking at me?!?!"
Mom - "Because you're throwing a tantrum, Keandre."
K - "I am NOT!  You need to look at me!"

While cuddling together after Keandre calmed down:
Mom - "I missed this side of you, Sweetie." :)
K - "Where was I, Mom???"

Destany:
D – “Can chickens complicate with birds?  Can chickens talk with birds? ”
Mom – “Hmm, I’m not sure.”
D – “Can you ask the computer?”

D – “Mama, I’m not a vegetarian, I’m MEATatarian!”

D – “Mom, I put some water on my hair. I don’t want it straight anymore. I’m a CurlyGirl!”

D - "Lucas, please butt out of my business!"
Mom - "Destany!  Don't speak to your brother that way."
D - "But Mom, I said PLEASE!"

Lucas:
After snacks: "Look how clean my plate is, Mom. And I didn't even lick it!"

August Kids' Quotes

Keandre --
Mommy: "Keandre, what are hands for?"
Keandre: "For loving and helping....and eating...without hitting!"
Mommy: "Ummm, yes! You are correct." :)

Destany --
"Keandre, the chicken avocado isn't done yet.  Would you like a side-kick?  I'll get you a menu of the sidekicks."

"Chez and Leslie go to Satan Joe Church."  (They attend a Catholic church...and that is not its name! ;)

For family that likes to keep up on recent quotes, check here for July.  I just finally posted these, and Keandre had some pretty good ones!

July Kids' Quotes

Destany --
Mommy: "Keandre, you can play with that for 5 more minutes, and then it's Destany's turn."
Destany:  "Can it be 7 more seconds?"
Mommy:  "Ummm, no."  (But nice try!)
Destany:  "Okaaaay."  (with great disappointment in her voice)

Brooklyn was choking and sputtering during her early morning feeding.
Destany's thoughts: "Maybe you didn't chew your food enough last night, and too big of pieces are coming through!"

Keandre --
"When you see a bad guy, kick him in the tummy-ache!"

Keandre: "I’m going to change my name when I’m bigger."
Mommy: "Really?  What will you change it to?"
Keandre: "God."

"Mommy, I'm a puppy.  Can you be my grown-up?"

"A mark.  Gets.  Set.  5 - 2 - Go!"

"What that thing called that keeps rain off you?  Where'd they get that?!" (ummmm....an umbrella, little desert boy!)

Mommy: "What should our behavior look like while we're shopping?"
Keandre: "Don't yell...and don't spank people."

Keandre's prayer one night while we stayed at a cousin's cabin:
"Thank you for the cabin.  Thank you for our life here.  Thank you for the trash truck."  (Which came and emptied a dumpster right in front of him!)

May Kids' Quotes

Lucas & Keandre
L: "Hi baby bunny!"
K: "I not a bunny!"
L:  "No, you're a human."
K: "Mommy a grown-up.  I be a grown-up in 60 minutes."

Destany, Lucas, and Mommy
D: "What's that from?" (tiny sore on my arm, from IV at hospital)
Me: "That's where they gave me fluids after Brooklyn was born."
D: "Why did they give you fluids?!  Was that your reward?"
L: "Destany, after pushing a baby out, I think the baby is your reward."

Keandre
"Mommy, why she eating your tummy?!?" (Brooklyn nursing)

Wishing he could use Mommy's inhaler....
"I need your breath!  My tummy is hurting!"  (Nice try, son.)

Mommy: "Do you need a bite to eat, to hold you over until dinner?
K: "Yes, I need something to bite!"

Mommy: "Keandre, sit here until you are ready to obey."
K: "Aaaah, that will be a looooong time!"

Keandre:
"Do you see the fishy Mommy?  I think he's not home.  I think he died or went to church." (the fish in their fish tank was hiding)

Keandre: "From Papa!"

February Kids' Quotes

Lucas:
~“Why do some people think microwaves are bad for us? Do they add sugar to our food?”
~“Mom! 100 + 100 = 200! I just looked it up on my new calculator.”

 Destany:
~“Mom, I think I’m getting married! Ryan has been holding my hand at school.”
~Kiara: "Destany, God made you beautiful, inside and out!”
Destany: “Inside a nut???”
~As Andy talked about moving the crib into Destany’s room….
Destany: “I just don’t know if this is going to work…“
Andy: “What do you mean?”
Destany: “I just don’t think this is going to work because the baby will cry and wake me up.”  Andy reminded her if the baby slept somewhere else, Destany would be sleeping by herself in her room (and she’s been complaining about that for a long time).  Destany thought for a second, then said, “Ok, I changed my mind.”

Keandre:
~“Hi 9-1-1.  How you doing?  Please come here – I need you!”
~“Mommy!  My booty hurts…..both booties hurt!”  (pointing to each cheek – eczema issues
~“What’s that?!” (pointing at a crescent moon, in middle of the day)  Daddy: “The moon.” Keandre: “You cut it?  You go up on ladder and cut it?!”
~Kiara to Keandre, after a short time-out: "Keandre, are you ready to go outside and play with the boys?  You'll leave the girls alone?"  Keandre: "No, I go tickle the girls and spank their bottoms!" (grinning from ear to ear, of course. LOL)

January Kids' Quotes

Keandre:
"Mommy, please give me too much?" (aka: a lot)
Sitting on potty, with eyes tightly shut: "Mommy, please come, I'm done!  Hey....you found me!"
"Granny was there, y Papa, y Devin, y...."  (who has been teaching this child Spanish?!" LOL)

Destany:
"Mommy, can I trade you pillows?  This one is too chubby."
"I like to drink hot water.  It seems like it steams up to say hello to me!"
"Mommy, can you please put my new necklace on me?  I feel so dim without it!"
