Our family is growing, and we look forward to sharing the joy, chaos, and lessons learned as we follow God and live out our commitment to Him. Thanks for joining us!
Around here, Brooklyn is a rockstar. Everyone loves Brooklyn. At any given time, there is a line of siblings waiting for a turn to hold her. Each of them takes great pride in their special relationship with her, and their ability to make her laugh and squeal. It is so sweet to watch their relationships grow.
Right now, Brooklyn is especially high on my list of favorite little people. You see, Destany had this tooth that was driving me crazy. You know the kind. The one hanging crooked, right smack in the middle of her smile, just begging to be pulled. But Destany was not interested in having it pulled. I begged for the privilege, but she was not to be swayed. And stories of tying a string around it and slamming a door to yank it did not help any. (Nice try, honey.)
To my great delight, Brooklyn took care of that tooth tonight. Destany was playing with her when she suddenly shouted out that Brooklyn had knocked her tooth out. And sure enough....as she explained what had happened, that stubborn little tooth fell out of her mouth and onto the carpet in front of her. Wooohooo! That's my baby.
Now let's just hope the 'Tooth Fairy' remembers to follow up on this tooth! A few nights ago Destany received $1.25 and an apology note from said fairy. That tooth had been under her pillow for a couple nights, so she accrued a little interest!
Keandre pointed out that he and Brooklyn match today -- both wearing brown. Then he asked me to take a picture of the two of them together. Unfortunately, Brooklyn was tired and soon dissolved into tears. But Keandre handled it with grace and proved he had the situation under control! He began rocking back and forth and singing to her, and soon had his baby sister calm again.
He sometimes accomplishes this same feat by fetching her paci for her, and then he announces with great excitement and just a touch of pride, "I fixed it! She's not crying!" I love his enthusiasm toward life as a big brother.
Destany has been waiting a LONG time to have a little sister. She is so excited that Brooklyn is here! First thing in the morning, Destany comes into our room, her face lit up with a smile, asking, "Is my baby sister up yet?" She is always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it's by pushing the stroller, or passing me wipes during a diaper change.
Asking lots of questions -- about her umbilical cord, her bandaid (she had blood drawn), tiny hospital bands, etc. They love her tiny little fingers and toes!
When I woke up this morning, the house was still quiet. Destany slept in a little (a rare occurence!), and the boys were occupied in their room. When I peeked in, this was what I found...
Two brothers, huddled together on the top bunk, reading board books about baby animals. They are so sweet together!
As Lucas and Destany's number one fan, Keandre deserves a post all his own. He enjoyed going to as many practices as possible, and never missed a game. Dressed in his own soccer 'uniform' -- with either mini soccer cleats or a pair of Harley Davidson boots -- he was always ready to go on time. His siblings loved having him along. And he loved cheering them on, playing soccer with Daddy on the sidelines, and joining in for team snacks!
Keandre had a rough night, with a croupy cough, throwing up, etc. (a cough + congestion + reflux = lots of fun when sick!) That also means Andy and I were pretty wiped out by morning.
The kids were all up by 7am, and Keandre was coughing pretty hard, but Andy and I were in denial and weren't moving very fast. Without a second thought, Lucas set to work getting the nebulizer ready, and the three of them cuddled on Keandre's bed and kept him company while he took his medicine. It was so sweet listening to them hanging out together that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to snap a picture. Oh, how we love our sweet kiddos!
