One of several escapees deposited this little surprise in our backyard 'pile-of-things-to-deal-with-and-get-rid-of', and we found it while cleaning up out there this afternoon. (Please tell me we're not the only ones with such pile! ;)
I suppose it's time to rustle up some nexting boxes. Any ideas for nesting boxes on a budget? Looks like we need to act fast unless we want them to think our 'pile' is fair game!

Congratulations! What are you making with it? Maybe you could use that container for a nesting box.

Let us know what you come up with. I'm still trying to convince Mike that chickens are a GREAT idea. Still. Trying.
Despite the many nesting boxes we have, our chickens still lay eggs everywhere BUT the nest boxes. I had to move our broody hen from the middle of the floor of the coop to a corner in a dog crate to get her out of the way of traffic today. She had three eggs under her. Right in the middle of the floor of the coop...two feet away from all the nest boxes!
Oh and old plastic buckets with pine (never cedar)shavings work great. If they actually you know...use them. Or old milk crates.
Oh fun! Did you find it soon enough to get to eat it?
Eggs stay fresh for weeks, even unrefrigerated. We leave ours room temp.
Wooo hooo! I am SO excited for you guys. I want chickens SO bad!
