What an exciting week! Zinnia and Sweet, both of Destany's chickens, are laying eggs. One lays in the morning, and one in the afternoon. We probably check for eggs at least ten times a day. I wonder when the novelty will wear off?
Their nesting box is a large mailbox.
Yes, they do use it. :)
Looks at the beautiful shades of brown! This is our first dozen, in order from left to right, top then bottom. Today's egg was huge compared to the first eleven!

You'll have to research, but I think the smaller eggs are considered "pullet" eggs -
my Amish friends say they are more nutritious and delicious.
I think you've got an ostrich in the flock. :) Congratulations Destany!
oh fun! i'd love to have chickens someday!
just came to say that we have been using the body butters and i'm LOVING the chocolate peppermint one! i tweeted it & will try to even blog about it for you all soon! love it! thanks!
I can't wait till you so many you start giving them away --- to me! :)
We are looking forward to sharing! Right now we are getting two most days. Soon we will have 5 - 6 each day. Start saving your egg cartons, okay? :)
I LOVE it! I want chickens soooooooooo bad. Right now, I will focus on our adoption, but when that settles, it's chicken time ;). You'll have to share your tips with me!
Those are GORGEOUS! The people I buy my eggs from right now are moving to Snowflake and trying to get rid of their chickens. (If you need any, FYI) BUT, I'd love to buy some when you're getting bunches of them a day. "real" eggs are so much better than store bought ones :)
Keandre, when you gather the eggs will you save some for me? I'd like to have one of each color. Will the chickens lay different colors for Easter?
I can't wait to find eggs, I keep looking, but all I find is POOP! lol.
How do the chickens get into the mailbox? Ours can't even figure out how to use the roosts yet...lol. The babies were laying on the cold ground, so we had to bring them back inside the other night. My DS says that chicken in the picture looks like a Barred Plymouth Rock?
Love the egg picture, I think I will do that too and compare sizes.
